The fun part is that when they hear you trying to speak their language they're all so charmed they start telling you you're really good at it, no matter what you're actually saying. I was practicing new words on my piano teacher before trying them out on the general public, only to finally realize that she wasn't bothering to correct my mistakes because she thought my accent was adorable. Never mind no one but her can understand my accent.
I'm pretty certain I asked several of the Korean locals such favors as "Give me your money" or "Make me a subway car."
